Athletic Performance Athletic Performance and Body Composition
The bioimpedance analysis (BIA) uses the resistance of electrical flow through the body to estimate fat, hydration levels, basal metabolic rate and cell health. It is a safe and noninvasive indication of health. Lean body mass and healthy cells are important to athletes, the source of high function, strength and endurance. Progressive increases in lean body mass is associated with increasing physical performance.
What the BIA can tell you
BODY COMPOSITION
Body composition is the percentage of fat, bone and muscle in the human body. Monitoring your body composition with the use of bioimpedance analysis is a key indicator of health and fitness. In general athletes perform better with optimal body fat percentages. The more body fat you have the more inflammation you have in your body. Inflammation stresses your immune system and adrenal glands and puts you at risk for several diseases including heart disease and diabetes. Body Fat Percentage is the percentage of your total body weight that is made up of lipids (fats).
HYDRATION LEVELS
Tracking hydration levels is important for athletes. Even a minimal drop in hydration levels can have a big impact on performance. It can provoke changes in you mental ability, cardiovascular system, metabolic, central nervous system, theromoregulatory and muscular strength.1 Hydration levels are broken down into intra-cellular water and extra-cellular water.

CELLULAR HEALTH
Every human cell conducts all physical and chemical reactions in the body. The cell membrane completely covers the entire cell. Where there is a high integrity of the cell membrane, the cell is usually considered healthy. Generally, the healthier the cells the healthier the individual. The cell membrane regulates inflow and outflow of water to and from the cell. Intracellular water (water inside the cell) is a sensitive indicator of nutritional health. The first sign of declining health is a shift of cellular fluids form inside the cell to outside the cell. We are able to track both short and long term nutritional changes in your health using this sophisticated tool.
BASAL METABOLIC RATE
Your basal metabolic rate is the amount of calories you burn at rest. We can estimate you basal metabolic rate, which can help you create personal caloric requirements to help you achieve a health body composition.
