Cardiovascular Health What is Cholesterol-High?
Cholesterol is a natural waxy substance needed by your body to work properly. Hypercholesterolemia or high cholesterol can contribute to plaque building up in the arteries and inhibit circulation. This can eventually cause the arteries to narrow and raise your risk of heart disease and stroke.
A carrier called lipoprotein transports cholesterol in your blood. There are two types of cholesterol- HDL (high-density lipoproteins, or “good cholesterol) and LDL (low density lipoproteins, or “bad cholesterol”). The amount of HDL relative to LDL is considered a more important indicator of your risk for heart disease.1
Magnesium Supplements and Cholesterol
Magnesium supplements have been shown to lower LDL cholesterol and raise HDL cholesterol levels (3-6).
