Enzymes Enzymes
Enzymes are proteins produced by all living organisms. They accelerate the billions of chemical reactions that take place within the body. Each type of enzyme has a special function in the body.
There are 3 types of enzymes:
1/ Metabolic- These enzymes facilitate day to day activities that keep us functioning
2/ Food- These enzymes are naturally found in raw foods. The body can obtain enzymes from foods, but in today’s society fast, processed, microwaved and pesticide sprayed foods leave our foods devoid of these enzymes. Lack of enzymes in our foods places a strain on your pancreas and other organs.
3/ Digestive- These enzymes break down the food we eat so it can be used as a source of nutrients and energy. All digestive enzymes come for two living sources, plants or animals
We naturally produce digestive enzymes that are secreted by our pancreas into our small intestine to digest the food we eat. As we age or in certain disease states our body produces less enzymes. Lack of enzymes can result in poor digestion with symptoms such as gas, bloating, certain food intolerances and inflammation. Eating raw foods or taking enzyme supplements can help prevent depletion of the body’s own enzymes.
Conditions that may benefit from digestive enzymes:
Digestive problems, constipation, diarrhea, yeast infection (candidiasis), lactose intolerance, food allergies and intolerances, celiac disease, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), leaky gut syndrome.
