Bio-Identical Progesterone: FAQ'S

What is Progesterone?

Progesterone is one of the primary hormones made by the ovaries and is the major female reproductive hormone.  It is also the precursor of other sex hormones and corticosteroids that are needed for response to stress, blood pressure, sugar and electrolyte balance, and even for survival!

If a woman must take hormone replacement therapy to ease the symptoms of menopause she should take the lowest possible dose for the shortest amount of time.

NutriChem Bio-Identical Progesterone is sourced from pharmaceutical grade yam and produced using an ointment mill that is used to reduce particle size of the progesterone, offering the highest level of functionality for the cream preparations.  It allows the powder to be highly dispersed and perfectly homogenized in our Nutrinsic base cream, which is combined with dexpanthenol and labrifil to increase absorption.

How is Bio-Identical Progesterone applied?

Our highly absorbable transdermal cream is best applied to soft tissue areas such as the inner thigh, inner arm, inner wrist or neck.  It is recommended that the application site be rotated regularly and to avoid applying the cream to the breasts or abdominal area.  For sleep disturbances, apply the cream to the neck area after dinner time to promote a restful sleep.  For hot flashes and other symptoms, the cream can be applied in the morning or afternoon.  For women who are menstruating, the cream can be used in a number of ways.  The proper regime will be used by your prescriber depending on the symptoms, the individual woman, hormone levels and other factors.  The benefit of bio-identical progesterone cream is that it stays in the body longer, so if a day of application is missed, you do not need to play catch-up.

How much Bio-Identical Progesterone do I need?

The dosage of bio-identical progesterone cream is variable and depends upon the individual woman and the symptom(s) being treated.  NutriChem’s Body Chemistry Balancing Test can indicate to your doctor or pharmacist the recommended starting dose.  Please speak to our staff or visit our website for more information.

Are there any side-effects?

Progesterone can cause spotting or the restart of menstruation.  This effect is normally a result of a healthier lining of the uterus.  If the symptoms do not subside within two to three months, check with your pharmacist or doctor for dosage adjustment.  In the first few weeks of starting to use the natural hormone, a few women may temporarily experience an exaggeration of their previous ‘estrogen dominance’ symptoms such as breast tenderness, headaches or depression. This is rare and generally passes after the first month.

We are strong advocates of the classic patient-physician relationship  especially with respect to prescriptions. Any patient that requires a prescription must have a face to face interaction with their physician. FDA's general position: The FDA, due to the current state of their regulations, has taken the position that virtually all shipments of prescription drugs imported from a Canadian pharmacy by a U.S. consumer will violate the law.   If a woman must take hormone replacement therapy to ease the symptoms of menopause she should take the lowest possible dose for the shortest amount of time.
