Summer BBQ Turkey Burgers

This delicious recipe will have your family and guests salivating this long weekend! Grilled turkey burgers have the delicious taste of barbecued treats that we all know and love, but they are healthier than ground beef burgers in many ways. As shown in this comparison table (source), turkey burgers contain roughly the same amount of protein but have fewer calories, fats, sodium and potassium.

Turkey vs. Burger table

This recipe is easy to make, much healthier for you than store-bought turkey burgers, and the bun-free aspect makes it gluten-free and paleo-friendly. Score!

Turkey burgers on a grill

Ingredients

1 lb organic ground turkey

1 egg (make it egg-free by substituting 2 tbsp flax seeds mixed with ¼ cup warm water)

½ cup finely chopped parsley

¼ cup finely chopped onion

¼ cup chopped celery

1 tsp oregano

1 tsp sage

1 tsp yellow mustard powder

romaine lettuce leaves (to wrap the burgers)

desired toppings

Directions

  1. Pre-heat BBQ to 400 degrees.
  2. Chop parsley, onion and celery and place into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add spices, egg, then ground turkey and mix thoroughly with your hands.
  4. Mold into evenly-sized patties, and barbeque on each side for 10-13 minutes (until fully cooked through).
  5. Place grilled burgers on 1-4 romaine lettuce leaves (however many you prefer).
  6. Place toppings on top of burger, then wrap in the romaine lettuce leaves!

Enjoy!
