In the early days of NutriChem, owner Kent MacLeod, had one of those life-changing moments. Why, he wondered, would pharmacies sell soft drinks and junk food to people who were coming in to pick up their prescriptions for high blood pressure or heart disease medications? Wasn’t there something wrong with that?

So Kent overhauled his retail store – out went the junk, and in came more natural products and high quality vitamin supplements.

But it’s not just because of the pharmacy and retail store that NutriChem is one of the go-to health destinations.

Through the years, Kent made other significant changes to NutriChem:

• The compounding laboratory was expanded and upgraded to meet every-increasing government regulations.
• Customized vitamin supplementation was developed to meet the unique needs of patients.
• A commitment was made to support women through the menopausal transition and with specialized training, professional collaborations and public education, NutriChem became Ottawa’s bio-identical hormone experts.
• A metabolic testing laboratory was established to help people measure the need for, and the effects of, nutritional supplementation.
• A biomedical clinic was added to provide advice, consultations and support for those wanting help in integrating holistic approaches with their medical issues.

Along the way, numerous awards have been won including a Distinguished Practice Award and an Outstanding Award for Innovation. Kent had the honour of being named the Professional Compounding Centers of America’s 2009 Canadian Compounding Pharmacist of the Year.
